Inspecting Potable Water Use at DLF Phase Construction Sites

GURUGRAM: In response to rising summer temperatures, a crackdown has been launched in DLF City phases to address the illegal extraction and use of drinking water at construction sites. Recently, motors used to draw water at seven construction sites were dismantled, according to officials from the DLF security team, who also requested that MCG impose penalties on offenders.

This enforcement follows frequent instances of drinking water being diverted from household use for construction and other purposes. Officials noted that this misuse disrupts distribution and increases pressure on an already constrained water system.

“Our priority is to ensure that residents have consistent access to safe drinking water, and violations will face strict consequences,” stated Nitya Mohan, head of DLF Utilities.

DLF has also instructed property owners found misusing drinking water to halt construction operations.

Residents have expressed their support for this initiative, highlighting ongoing concerns about water supply and pressure inconsistencies. “During peak hours, we often notice a drop in pressure. If construction sites are illegally accessing the same supply, it directly impacts us,” said Rakesh Sharma, a resident of DLF 3.

Neha Bansal from DLF-1 remarked that this action was long overdue. “We’ve been raising this issue for months. It’s reassuring to witness effective enforcement finally taking place. Water is a precious resource that shouldn’t be taken lightly,” she said.

Residents also called for ongoing monitoring. “While these initiatives are beneficial, they need to be carried out regularly to be effective,” stated Amit Arora, a resident of DLF 5.

Officials have urged contractors, developers, and site operators to strictly adhere to regulations, utilizing only approved non-potable sources, such as treated water or tanker supplies, for construction activities.

DLF officials confirmed that inspections will be ongoing in the upcoming weeks, with additional measures planned against repeat offenders.

This initiative is part of DLF Utilities’ larger commitment to sustainable resource management and maintaining civic infrastructure standards within the city’s residential areas. With urban demand increasing and groundwater levels dwindling, experts assert that stricter enforcement and heightened community awareness are vital for long-term water security.
