INDORE: The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has laid down stringent fire and public safety regulations for building owners, hotels, restaurants, banquet halls, clubs, hospitals, and commercial entities throughout the city.
The IMC has underscored that basements are to be utilized solely for parking or specified activities authorized by the relevant authorities.
“The operation of kitchens, gas-based food preparation, or any high-risk commercial activities in basements without the necessary authorization and fire safety measures is strictly forbidden,” stated senior officials, also noting that unauthorized commercial activities on rooftops are banned due to the significant dangers they present in case of a fire.
To ensure compliance, the IMC is initiating a comprehensive inspection drive across the city. Property owners or operators who violate the National Building Code (2016) Part-4 standards by misusing basements or rooftops will receive formal notices and face legal actions.
Municipal Commissioner Kshitij Singhal affirmed that any non-compliant operations will be halted, and properties found in violation will be sealed under applicable laws if necessary.
