HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has successfully reclaimed 36 acres of government land in Kondapur, Serilingampally mandal, Rangareddy district, valued at approximately Rs 3,600 crore. This marks the agency’s second-most valuable recovery to date.
The land, located in survey number 59 near the RTA office in Kondapur, had been illegally occupied for several years. Following a directive from the high court, HYDRAA officials, supported by police, removed numerous temporary commercial structures erected on the property. The area has now been fenced off, with signboards installed to designate it as government property, aiming to deter future encroachments.
Officials noted that the reclaimed land is the second highest in value, following a September operation by HYDRAA that recovered 317 acres in Gajularamaram, Quthbullapur mandal, Medchal district, worth around Rs 15,000 crore. That land had been subdivided into illegal layouts and sold to unwitting buyers.
The Kondapur recovery is particularly notable because of its location in Hyderabad’s rapidly growing western corridor, where land prices have escalated over the past decade due to IT expansion and high real estate demand. Authorities reported that encroachers were taking advantage of the land’s value by constructing temporary sheds and leasing them out for commercial purposes.
HYDRAA officials emphasized the importance of safeguarding government land in high-demand urban areas. Recent actions also led to the recovery of land near Satamrai, adjacent to Shamshabad airport, valued at around Rs 500 crore, along with smaller tracts in Jubilee Hills.
