GANDHINAGAR: The Gujarat government announced on Sunday that the state has become a leader in implementing Phase II of the Pradhan Mantri-SVAMITVA scheme, having issued more than half of the total property cards created across India. The government stated that drone mapping has been successfully completed in over 11,500 villages.
According to an official statement, during the second phase of the scheme, which commenced in 2021-22, a total of 32,35,260 property cards were prepared nationwide. Out of these, Gujarat issued 18,50,614 property cards, the highest among all states.
The government noted that this scheme addresses a persistent challenge for rural inhabitants who often lack formal legal documentation for their properties and homes, thus hindering their ability to assert ownership rights and access financial benefits.
The SVAMITVA (Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas) initiative aims to create legal ownership records using advanced survey technology. In Gujarat, this program was executed through an extensive drone survey, with a total of 14,900 drone flights mapping and notifying 11,511 villages. Nationally, drone surveys were conducted across 58,197 villages during this phase, as stated.
At the district level, Mehsana topped the list in Gujarat with 1,66,504 property cards issued, followed by Ahmedabad with 1,53,125. Kheda, Banaskantha, and Anand districts also surpassed the one-lakh mark for property cards issued, as per the statement.
With the availability of legal ownership records, residents can utilize their property cards to access formal banking services and secure loans more efficiently. The government reported that loans up to Rs 50 lakh have been sanctioned in Gujarat based on property cards issued under this scheme.
