Govt Approves 2.88 Lakh Homes Under PMAY-Urban 2.0


NEW DELHI: The Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) convened on Monday in New Delhi, sanctioning a total of 2.88 lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0).

With the latest approval of 2,87,618 houses, the total number of houses approved under the scheme has exceeded 13.61 lakh.

The newly approved houses span 16 states and Union Territories (UTs), categorized under various PMAY-U 2.0 verticals: Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC) – 1.66 lakh houses, Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) – 1.09 lakh houses, and Affordable Rental Housing (ARH) – 12,846 houses.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has emphasized the importance of rental housing via ARH for affordable housing needs, sanctioning 12,846 houses under this initiative.

Additionally, the CSMC approved three Demonstration Housing Projects (DHPs) in Chhattisgarh, Puducherry, and Rajasthan, with each project featuring 40 dwelling units.

Srinivas Katikithala, secretary of MoHUA, highlighted the need to prioritize housing projects near mass transit corridors and stressed that AHP houses should be located within urban areas for better accessibility.

Of the 2.88 lakh sanctioned houses, over 1.60 lakh have been allotted to women, including widows, separated, or unmarried women. Eight units have been designated for transgender individuals.

Furthermore, 22,581 houses have been allocated to senior citizens, while 35,525 houses are intended for Scheduled Caste (SC) beneficiaries, 9,773 for Scheduled Tribe (ST) beneficiaries, and 82,190 for Other Backward Class (OBC) beneficiaries.

In total, 96% of the 13.61 lakh sanctioned houses under PMAY-U 2.0 are registered in the names of female heads of households or in joint names within the BLC and ISS verticals. Among various marginalized groups, 22% of houses have been allocated to SC beneficiaries, 5% to ST beneficiaries, and 73% to others.

Overall, the total houses sanctioned under the PMAY-Urban scheme now stands at 122.50 lakh, with over 97 lakh houses completed and delivered.
