GHAZIABAD: Following two major fires in Indirapuram within a month, the district administration has requested reports from the Ghaziabad Development Authority, the discom, and the fire department. A review meeting is scheduled for June 2, officials announced on Friday.
The recent fire incidents in Ghaziabad’s Indirapuram—specifically in Gaur Green Avenue and Gaur Biz Business Park—have intensified worries regarding fire safety and emergency response in high-rise residential and commercial buildings.
On April 29, a fire erupted in a flat in Tower D of Gaur Green Avenue, affecting five floors and damaging at least 13 apartments. Residents were evacuated safely, and while no injuries were reported, significant property damage occurred. A subsequent fire in the basement’s meter room at Gaur Biz Business Park spread through electrical wiring and paneling on Wednesday, affecting adjacent structures, including parts of Gaur Green Avenue. Again, there were no reported injuries.
Officials informed TOI that a committee led by the GDA secretary was formed on April 30 to assess safety measures, investigate the fire causes, check the adequacy of preventative measures, and review the district’s emergency readiness. “The report was submitted this week, and the district magistrate will take necessary actions,” an official stated.
District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandar has requested a report from the discom to establish if local residential complexes are operating within their approved power loads. The GDA has also been asked to confirm whether the initial building plans are being adhered to. Any unauthorized or additional constructions will be dismantled.
The administration has called for a comprehensive report from the fire department regarding fire NOCs issued to residential complexes and their readiness to handle emergencies. Officials must ensure that all fire safety systems are functional and well-maintained while verifying compliance with fire safety regulations to prevent future incidents.
The meeting will also include representatives from the police, sub-divisional magistrates, and the PWD and irrigation departments.
