GDA Board to Discuss Fire Safety, Land Acquisition on April 14

GHAZIABAD: The GDA board is set to convene on Thursday to discuss 17 proposals, which include updating development, permit, and inspection fees for the fiscal year 2026-27, following an increase by the state government. The board will also assess a recently approved allocation of Rs 100 crore aimed at enhancing fire safety measures in high-rise buildings. Additional topics on the agenda involve land acquisition for the Aerocity project and the second phase of the Harnandipuram township development.

“One of the key proposals on the agenda involves budgetary allocations to improve fire safety systems. Rs 100 crore has already been allocated, pending board approval,” stated a GDA official.

In response to the fire incident at Gaur Green Avenue, the GDA has sanctioned Rs 100 crore to acquire two hydraulic platforms capable of reaching heights of 102 meters, equivalent to 30 storeys. Currently, the district fire department operates a hydraulic platform that can only reach 42 meters, or 14 storeys, which was highlighted as a safety concern during the recent incident.

Ghaziabad currently boasts over 400 high-rise buildings, particularly in areas such as Indirapuram, Crossings Republik, Raj Nagar Extension, and Sidharth Vihar.

Another significant proposal under consideration is the increase in development, permit, and inspection fees for the ongoing fiscal year, reflecting a 4% rise implemented by the state government for FY 2026-27.

For the ambitious Harnandipuram township, the board will consider acquiring land for the second phase. The initial phase has outlined a development plan covering 336 hectares across three villages: Mathurapur, Shamsher, and Nangla Feroze Mohan Nagar.

The board will also seek approval for the acquisition of approximately 200 hectares of land for the Aerocity project in Morti.

Additionally, formal approval will be sought from the board for the Ghaziabad International Cricket Stadium, which will be developed in partnership with the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association and GDA. The Authority plans to finance the project through the Urban Challenge Fund, which will cover 25% of the total cost, while the remaining 50% will be sourced from the market.
