NOIDA: The Federation of Noida Residents’ Welfare Associations (FONRWA) has urged the Noida Authority to take action against unauthorized paying guest (PG) accommodations in residential sectors, flagging issues related to fire safety, parking shortages, and security.

In a letter to the Authority, KK Jain, the secretary general of FONRWA—which represents over 120 RWAs—stated that many PGs are operating without necessary approvals or compliance with safety regulations.

He claimed that numerous accommodations lack fundamental fire safety measures such as fire extinguishers and emergency exits, presenting significant risks to residents. “Most of these facilities lack essential fire safety equipment, which could lead to tragic incidents,” Jain emphasized.

Residents expressed that the rising number of illegal PGs is altering the character of their neighborhoods, contributing to parking challenges, traffic congestion, sanitation problems, noise pollution, and security issues.

“The commercial operation of PGs within residential areas is increasingly complicating daily life for families,” noted Sanjeev Kumar, RWA general secretary for Blocks C to F in Sector 51.

Jain pointed out that FONRWA has consistently raised this issue through letters and discussions with Authority officials but has experienced “minimal action” against unauthorized establishments.

The residents’ association is calling for a detailed survey of PGs and other commercial activities in residential sectors, the closure of unauthorized facilities, and strict enforcement of fire safety and construction regulations. They warned that continued inaction could lead to severe accidents and loss of life and property.

Noida Authority officials stated that they regularly conduct raids against unauthorized commercial activities in residential areas, issuing notices to violators and taking action according to regulations.
