Delhi’s Crackdown: 217 Properties Razed, 237 Sealed in June

NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) demolished 14 properties and sealed 25 establishments on Monday as part of an ongoing crackdown on illegal constructions and violations. Inspections by the Revenue Department have exceeded 770 in the past 10 days, officials reported.

Since the hotel fire in Malviya Nagar on June 3, the civic body has demolished 217 properties and sealed 237 others as part of this enforcement drive.

In this period, the MCD issued 330 show-cause notices for unauthorized constructions, 151 sealing notices, and 91 demolition orders. The Revenue Department’s daily inspection report indicated 29 sites were inspected on Monday, bringing the total inspections from June 5 to June 15 to 773.

The report noted that inspections in the North district resulted in four notices. A joint inspection occurred in New Delhi district, while violations in South West district were forwarded to the MCD’s Najafgarh Zone for further action.

In the South East district, one inspected site was confirmed as an illegal construction, prompting MCD action as per regulations. Field inspections were also conducted in the South district. The report detailed additional notices: three in South district, four in North East and North districts, and five each in Central and West districts.

Furthermore, the officials stated that the MCD issued 10 show-cause notices for unauthorized constructions and 31 sealing notices on that day.

According to the MCD’s action report, demolition activities involved 14 properties and 25 properties were sealed on June 15. This enforcement drive was initiated following a series of incidents related to civic infrastructure failures, fire safety violations, and corruption.

Officials confirmed that this campaign aims to eliminate illegal constructions and ensure adherence to building regulations and safety standards, with strict actions against violators continuing.
