DDA Demolishes Illegal Farmhouses in Sainik Farms, Recovers 4.5 Acres

NEW DELHI: On Friday, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) conducted a demolition operation in Tilpath Valley, located in the Sainik Farms area of south Delhi, targeting illegal constructions on land designated for a biodiversity park.

Officials confirmed that the demolished structures were not protected under the National Capital Territory of Delhi (Special Provisions) Act, 2014, which typically shields jhuggi jhopri (JJ) clusters from demolition. The action specifically took place on Khasra numbers 595, 596, and 620.

During an initial phase of the operation on December 5, nine properties were identified by the DDA.

Out of these, five properties—including two fully constructed farmhouses, two partially built farmhouses, and one vacant plot—were demolished, resulting in the recovery of approximately four acres of land, as stated by the authorities.

Three properties were exempted from the demolition due to an existing stay order from the Delhi High Court. One property on Khasra No 596 was also left untouched in accordance with court directives.

However, on December 10, during a hearing, the high court refused to extend the stay regarding Khasra 596, thus allowing for its demolition.

The operation carried out on Friday resulted in an additional recovery of 0.5 acres, bringing the total reclaimed land in Tilpath Valley to approximately 4.5 acres, according to official statements.
