Chhattisgarh: 50% Property Registration Rebate for Women

RAIPUR: In a significant move to bolster women’s ownership of assets, the Chhattisgarh government has introduced a 50% rebate on registration fees for properties registered in women’s names. This decision, endorsed by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, was officially announced in the gazette on Wednesday and takes effect immediately.

According to officials, this initiative aims to motivate families to register immovable property under women’s names, enhancing their economic security and social status. The government anticipates that this rebate will gradually increase women’s participation in property ownership, an essential aspect of financial independence.

Chief Minister Sai hailed the announcement as a “historic step” towards empowering women, emphasizing that property ownership boosts confidence and provides lasting security. “An empowered woman strengthens not just the family but the entire state,” he stated.

Finance Minister O. P. Choudhary recognized that the rebate would have an estimated revenue impact of around Rs 153 crore but referred to it as a “strategic social investment.” He expressed confidence that the long-term benefits of enhanced financial inclusion and asset ownership among women would surpass the immediate fiscal implications.

As per the gazette notification, any document related to the transfer of immovable property executed in favor of a woman is eligible for a 50% discount on the applicable registration fee.

This move places Chhattisgarh among the states leveraging fiscal incentives to tackle gender disparities in property ownership, with officials indicating that its impact will be closely evaluated in the coming years.
