Chandigarh Estate Office Doubles Revenue Recovery in FY26

CHANDIGARH: The UT estate office has seen a remarkable increase in revenue for the financial year 2025-26, collecting Rs 335.05 crore compared to Rs 164.5 crore in the previous year. This represents a growth of over Rs 170 crore, which is more than 103%, attributed to enhanced enforcement, digital improvements, and quicker resolution of pending cases.

An official from the estate office revealed that significant advancements have been made in the revenue collection mechanisms over the last two years. Strategies included focused recovery drives, timely issuance of demand notices, expedited case resolutions, digitization of records, online payment options, and rigorous enforcement of the Capital of Punjab (Development & Regulation) Act, 1952, alongside the Chandigarh Estate Rules.

“In the full financial year of 2024-25, the estate office recovered Rs 164.5 crore, which surged to Rs 335.05 crore in 2025-26. Up to May 31, 2026, approximately Rs 51.5 crore has already been collected in the current financial year, including nearly Rs 6.8 crore from the auction of two residential plots on June 29,” the official stated.

Officials attributed this success to continuous monitoring of outstanding premiums, ground rent, extension fees, misuse charges, and other dues. Revenue was also bolstered by conversion charges and successful online property auctions.

Major initiatives included targeted recovery efforts against defaulters, quicker processing of mutation, transfer, and conversion applications, and quarterly transparent e-auctions for vacant sites. These measures resulted in a faster recovery of statutory charges and improved property transaction speeds.

The estate office also highlighted technology-driven reforms introduced over the past year that enhanced operational efficiency. These digital initiatives allowed for quicker identification of outstanding dues, improved tracking of property transactions, reduced manual delays, increased transparency, and accelerated recovery processes.

Nishant Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner/Estate Officer, stated, “Looking ahead, the department plans to continue regular recovery efforts, maintain vigilant monitoring of defaulter cases, further digitize records, and facilitate the sale of vacant properties through transparent e-auctions. We aim to sustain elevated revenue generation while enhancing compliance and service delivery.”
