INDORE: The Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (MPIDC) has secured agreement from landowners for approximately 300 hectares as part of the land pooling initiative for the planned 19.60 km Indore–Pithampur Economic Corridor, marking a major milestone in this high-value infrastructure project.
The estimated cost of the corridor exceeds Rs 2,400 crore and is designed to enhance connectivity between Indore and Pithampur, a key industrial hub in the state.
Officials stated that the corridor encompasses a total planning area of 1,177 hectares, comprising 954 hectares of private land across 17 villages and 222 hectares of government land. To date, MPIDC has obtained landowner consent for about 295 hectares and has also transferred nearly 170 hectares of required government land for the project.
This corridor is poised to significantly facilitate freight movement, minimize travel times, and attract new industrial investments in the Indore–Pithampur region, which hosts various sectors, including automotive, engineering, pharmaceuticals, and manufacturing.
Himanshu Prajapati, executive director of MPIDC (Indore region), remarked, “The encouraging response from landowners indicates that the project is on the right track. The corridor will enhance industrial connections, improve logistics efficiency, and support the overall economic growth of the area.”
Prajapati further mentioned that efforts are in progress to finalize the remaining land pooling formalities in phases.
This planned economic corridor is part of a larger initiative to improve transport infrastructure and reinforce industrial ecosystems around Indore. Upon completion, officials anticipate smoother cargo movement, reduced traffic congestion on existing routes, and better access for industries situated in Pithampur and adjacent areas.
MPIDC officials noted that the subsequent steps will include finalizing detailed engineering plans and preparing for phased land development along the corridor.
