GURUGRAM: The Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) has demolished an unauthorized meeting hall constructed by the Residents’ Welfare Association (RWA) of EMAAR Palm Hills in Sector 77. This structure was built in a shared open space without DTCP’s approval, contravening the designated layout plan.
The department emphasized that a resolution passed in a general body meeting does not grant RWAs the legal authority to erect permanent or semi-permanent structures, particularly in green belt areas or public spaces as indicated in the layout plan.
The department has warned RWAs against similar infractions in the future. Officials reiterated that RWAs are tasked solely with maintaining existing infrastructure within their housing society and do not possess the authority to construct new structures.
“Green spaces and open areas in group housing societies are safeguarded under the approved layout plans. Encroachments or constructions on these lands without prior DTCP approval are illegal and will face strict penalties,” said Amit Madholia, District Town Planner (Enforcement).
The DTCP has urged RWAs to uphold the integrity of approved plans and refrain from misleading residents with decisions made in internal meetings. Any proposals must be submitted to DTCP for review and authorization.
Residents, along with urban planning experts, have welcomed this move, deeming it essential to combat unregulated development.
