Mohali District Collects ₹11.43 Crore in 19 Days via OTS

MOHALI: In a significant development for the Punjab government’s initiative to collect pending property taxes, the urban local bodies (ULBs) in Mohali district have garnered an impressive Rs 11.43 crore within just 19 days through the one-time settlement (OTS) scheme.

Commending the enthusiastic participation of citizens, Mohali Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal noted that the remarkable revenue collected from July 1 to July 19 demonstrates the effectiveness of the scheme introduced by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, which is designed to provide substantial relief on outstanding property tax liabilities.

As per official reports, Zirakpur led the collections with Rs 7.53 crore, followed by Kharar at Rs 2.09 crore and Derabassi with Rs 96.45 lakh. Other municipal councils contributed as follows: Kurali – Rs 22.25 lakh, Nayagaon – Rs 32.50 lakh, Banur – Rs 17.02 lakh, and Lalru – Rs 12.39 lakh.

The DC clarified that under the OTS scheme, residents with unpaid or partially paid property tax dues up to March 31, 2025, can receive a full waiver on penalties and interest by settling the principal by July 31, 2025. Payments made between August 1 and October 31 will qualify for a 50% waiver on penalties and interest. After this period, the full penalties will be enforced as per existing regulations.

To assist taxpayers further, the district administration has decided to keep municipal council offices open on weekends until July 31. “This will accommodate working citizens unable to visit during weekdays,” added the DC.

In a bid to motivate public engagement and evaluate the scheme’s implementation, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Urban Development) Anmol Singh Dhaliwal inspected the Zirakpur and Kharar municipal councils on Friday. He expressed his approval of the positive response from residents and commended the efforts of municipal teams.

Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal encouraged citizens to take advantage of the scheme, urging them to visit their respective municipal councils and settle their dues within the stipulated timeframe to avoid penalties.
