NOIDA: On Friday, Noida International Airport issued a public advisory emphasizing that builders and local authorities must adhere to height restrictions within a 20 km radius of the airport.

According to Kiren Jain, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Noida International Airport, no construction, building, or tree planting is permitted in this radius unless one obtains a ‘Height Clearance’ or ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC) from the Airport Authority of India (AAI).

This clearance is essential, not just a regulatory formality, to protect flight operations and navigation infrastructure from possible obstructions, Jain explained.

“As the Noida International Airport prepares for commissioning, it is crucial for the public, real estate developers, and local authorities to strictly follow the height restrictions set by the Ministry of Civil Aviation to ensure the safety and efficiency of aircraft operations,” he stated.

All parties involved must consult local authorities before commencing any vertical development within the 20 km zone.

These bodies will refer to the Colour-Coded Zoning Map (CCZM) provided by the AAI to determine allowable height limits. Depending on the proposed height of construction, applicants may need to apply for a Height NOC via AAI’s NOCAS portal.

This process falls under GSR 751(E), Ministry of Civil Aviation (Height Restrictions for Safeguarding of Aircraft Operations) Rules, 2015, which prohibits unauthorized construction within safeguarded airspace. Any such violations could endanger Obstacle Limitation Surfaces (OLS) and disrupt navigation systems, putting flight safety at risk.

To ensure compliance, the Aircraft (Demolition of Obstructions caused by Buildings and Trees) Rules, 2023, authorize authorities to take legal action, including demolishing unauthorized structures or trees and imposing penalties under the Aircraft Rules.

All stakeholders, particularly builders, landowners, and residents, are strongly urged to cease any unauthorized development in the safeguarded area and obtain the necessary NOC from the AAI promptly.

Timely compliance is vital to ensuring safe, efficient, and unimpeded operations at the upcoming Noida International Airport.
