GURUGRAM: Following a crackdown on unauthorized paying guests (PGs) and guesthouses in residential areas, the Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM) will start collecting property taxes from these establishments. “Buildings that fail to pay their taxes will be sealed immediately,” said MCM Commissioner Pradeep Singh on Thursday.
A survey of regions with a high concentration of PGs is to be conducted within 15 days, as directed by Singh. He emphasized that residential buildings serving as PGs, guesthouses, hotels, or hostels must pay taxes applicable to commercial entities.
The corporation has identified its top 100 tax defaulters, who collectively owe Rs 229 crore. Singh instructed the tax department to enhance recovery efforts, stating that properties will be sealed if owners do not settle their outstanding taxes promptly.
According to MCM, approximately 1.8 lakh properties are registered within its jurisdiction. Property tax serves as the primary revenue source for the civic body, and improving collection is deemed “critical” for financing civic infrastructure and development initiatives.
Singh urged residents to pay their property taxes punctually, noting that better compliance would enable the corporation to execute more infrastructure and civic projects in Manesar.
Meanwhile, Singh has also tasked the horticulture department with restoring ponds and identifying additional natural low-lying areas for rainwater storage. He has ordered the increase of rainwater harvesting pits to bolster groundwater recharge and enhance long-term water security in the region.
