HYDERABAD: Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy announced on Sunday that the Indiramma housing scheme for low-income groups (LIG) in the core urban region economy (CURE) area will be launched at the secretariat on Monday.
The Congress government plans to build one lakh LIG flats in multi-storey buildings, each up to 10 floors. Ministers responsible for Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts, including Ponnam Prabhakar and D Sridhar Babu, along with Minorities Welfare Minister Mohammed Azharuddin, will unveil the application process, eligibility criteria, and the scheme brochure at the secretariat on Monday.
The government has identified prime land parcels within the city to house the underprivileged, acquiring sites ranging from one to five acres. Unlike previous administrations, these housing projects will be located close to existing low-income neighborhoods rather than on the city outskirts, as emphasized by the minister.
He encouraged residents to apply within their constituencies, noting that each one will be treated as a distinct entity for implementing the scheme. This fiscal year, the government aims to commence construction of 3.50 lakh homes — 2.50 lakh in rural areas and one lakh in urban areas.
The cabinet approved the construction of one lakh LIG houses in the CURE area in May, with plans to build approximately 12,000 houses as a pilot project in each selected constituency.
In a separate review meeting, Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy instructed officials to ensure the renovation of the Bhadrachalam Sitaramachandra Swamy Devasthanam is complete before the upcoming Godavari Pushkaralu. The temple complex must be ready at least 15 days before the event. He inspected the ongoing development work on-site and held a review meeting with endowment and engineering officials at the sub-collector’s office.
In another review session, the minister directed officials to conduct the land re-survey in Bhadradri Kothagudem district transparently and in compliance with regulations. Discussing the progress of the land re-survey and issues related to forest and revenue land parcels, he emphasized the need to expedite survey operations to avoid delays.
