Ranchi Civic Body Warns 232 PMAY Beneficiaries for Illegal Rentals

RANCHI: This Tuesday, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) initiated a campaign against the misuse of welfare housing. They issued show-cause notices to 232 beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) for unlawfully renting out their designated properties.

The enforcement action was prompted by reports of unauthorized subletting within the residential complex at the Light House Project in Dhurwa, developed under the housing scheme.

A preliminary investigation by civic officials uncovered that many recipients were not residing in their allocated flats, undermining the primary goal of the initiative and converting the subsidized housing into rental ventures.

Authorities stated that this behavior breaches paragraph 16 of the PMAY (Urban) Standard Operating Procedure, which categorically prohibits the commercial leasing or subletting of the allotted units.

The RMC has granted these defaulters a 24-hour deadline to provide proof of residency. Civic officials indicated that failure to deliver a satisfactory response or verifiable evidence within this period will lead to immediate proceedings to revoke their housing allotments.

Officials from the RMC assured that similar monitoring and stringent actions will be regularly enforced across the region.
