RAIPUR: In the past two-and-a-half years, over 1.1 million houses have been constructed in Chhattisgarh under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), recording the highest completion rate in the country, as noted by officials on Friday.
During a recent event in Raipur, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai presented keys to several PMAY beneficiaries and released a progress report on the “Mor Gaon-Mor Pani” (My Village-My Water) initiative.
Shortly after assuming office in December 2023, the state cabinet approved funds for 1.8 million PMAY houses in its inaugural meeting. Continued efforts have led to the completion of more than 1.1 million homes statewide, as stated in an official release.
Nearly 600,000 of these houses were built in the last fiscal year, marking the highest single-year completion for any state in India.
Furthermore, 151,000 houses have already been completed in the first 100 days of the current fiscal year (April 1 to July 9), with an impressive average of over 1,500 houses completed daily.
The Chief Minister also unveiled a report detailing the accomplishments of the “Mor Gaon-Mor Pani” mega campaign.
Launched on April 24, 2025, during Panchayati Raj Day, this participatory campaign encourages water conservation and groundwater recharge in rural regions.
Under this initiative, over 100,000 water conservation and augmentation projects, valued at over ₹2,000 crores, have been approved. These are being executed through the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) and the state’s VB-G-RAM G project.
These projects include the construction of livelihood ponds, village ponds, contour trenches, and other water-harvesting structures, all aimed at enhancing water conservation, groundwater recharge, and supporting rural livelihoods.
