PM to Lay Foundation Stone for Jaipur Metro Phase II on July 4

JAIPUR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to lay the foundation for Phase II of the Jaipur Metro this Saturday, initiating a five-year project aimed at enhancing connectivity along Tonk Road and nearby regions.

Metro officials have divided the project into seven sections: four focused on civil construction and three on electrical work and related systems. Tenders for all civil packages have been issued, with one already awarded. The remaining three are expected to be finalized in the coming months, with work on all civil packages slated to begin in September.

The first civil package, estimated at Rs 918 crore, will encompass a 12km elevated corridor from Prahladpura in Sitapura to Pinjrapole Gaushala, featuring 12 stations. The second package, valued at Rs 1,160 crore, includes a 3.12km underground section with two stations near Sanganer Police Station and within Jaipur airport.

The third package, costing Rs 1,392 crore, involves an 11.7km elevated corridor from the B2B Bypass Cloverleaf Junction to Khasa Kothi, incorporating 12 stations. The fourth package, estimated at Rs 1,331 crore, will extend 14.5km from Khasa Kothi to Todi Mod and will also have 12 stations.

To mitigate construction disruptions, the traffic police have devised a plan to transform the Sitapura-Ajmeri Gate stretch of Tonk Road into a ‘Model Corridor’. Immediate measures will focus on clearing encroachments and illegal parking from the road and adjoining footpaths to optimize the available carriageway.

Additional surveillance cameras have been installed, and enforcement has increased to tackle traffic violations. Traffic diversions will be implemented only as necessary and in collaboration with Jaipur Metro authorities.

Traffic DCP Yogesh Goyal stated that decisions regarding lane closures and route diversions will be made in conjunction with metro officials as construction advances. Senior officials from both traffic police and Jaipur Metro will conduct weekly review meetings every Monday to address challenges and ensure effective traffic management.
