PATNA: The empowered standing committee of the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved a proposal to transition leasehold residential properties to freehold ownership. Residents in areas such as Rajendra Nagar, Shri Krishnapuri, PIT Colony, and Beur will be eligible for full ownership rights upon payment of a conversion fee set at 10% of the existing circle rate.
This proposal was a key discussion point in the 23rd ordinary meeting of the empowered standing committee on Tuesday, during which members ratified 18 agenda items aimed at enhancing municipal administration. Led by mayor Sita Sahu, this policy seeks to address longstanding legal issues related to lease violations, illegal constructions, and complications in property transfers, while also boosting municipal revenue. To obtain freehold status, allottees must settle any outstanding property dues and register their lease deeds.
The municipal administration is currently assembling a standard operating procedure to facilitate the conversion process, which will require final approval from the municipal board. Once finalized, this transition is anticipated to streamline property transactions.
Additionally, the committee authorized the allocation of two shops to JEEVIKA within the Maurya Lok Complex, charging a monthly rent of Rs15 per square foot. In recognition of the vital work performed by city sanitation workers, the committee also approved a Rs5 increase in their daily wages.
PMC commissioner Yashpal Meena mentioned that the PMC has geo-tagged over 56,000 machine holes and 15,000 catch pits. A new initiative called the “Machine Hole Ambulance” has been introduced, deploying repair equipment directly to reported locations through the municipal helpline, thereby ensuring quick response times.
The committee further addressed various civic matters during the meeting, including legacy waste management at the Ramchak Bairiya dumping yard, monsoon drain desilting, and ongoing streetlight maintenance.
