RWA Pushes for Fire Safety Audits in Noida Hotels and Highrises

NOIDA: Following the recent fire incidents in Noida and Delhi, the Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Associations (FONRWA) has reached out to the GB Nagar police commissioner, urging immediate measures to enhance fire safety standards in the city.

The federation is requesting a thorough inspection of hotels, guest houses, and paying guest accommodations, along with the verification of Fire No Objection Certificates (NOCs) in high-rise residential and commercial buildings. They are also demanding action against illegal constructions, the improper use of basements, and breaches of approved building plans.

“The recent fire tragedies in Delhi and Noida should act as a wake-up call for authorities, local bodies, and citizens. Non-adherence to fire safety regulations, inadequate emergency exits, and faulty firefighting systems continue to pose significant risks,” stated Yogendra Sharma, president of the federation. He emphasized that Noida’s rapid urbanization and the rise in high-rise living, hotels, and other accommodation facilities make stringent fire safety measures more crucial than ever. Although many establishments operate legally, complaints about unauthorized facilities lacking basic safety infrastructure persist.

The federation is also advocating for the mandatory installation and regular maintenance of fire alarms, smoke detectors, and sprinkler systems, in addition to periodic testing of evacuation plans in multi-storey buildings.

KK Jain, the federation’s secretary general, called on authorities to implement stricter enforcement mechanisms and impose penalties for establishments operating without the required approvals. Moreover, he urged for regular fire safety training for staff and operators, and periodic mock drills to assess emergency preparedness, as well as mandatory inspections of electrical systems and equipment.

The federation emphasized that proactive enforcement and regular audits are essential to avert fire-related disasters and ensure public safety throughout the city.
