OC Exemption for Power Connection Extended to 2,400 Sq Ft Buildings

BENGALURU: Just days after Chief Minister DK Shivakumar unveiled plans to ease occupancy certificate (OC) norms for electricity connections, the government has broadened these exemptions to include a wider range of residential buildings within GBA limits.

According to the new directive, residential buildings on plots of up to 2,400 sqft, with an additional allowance of up to 20%, will not require an OC from municipal corporations or town planning authorities to obtain electricity connections.

The exemption applies to residential structures up to four stories high, including ground+3 or stilt parking plus four floors within GBA jurisdiction. This initiative aims to simplify access to essential services and mitigate delays homeowners face due to pending OC approvals, aligning with a Supreme Court directive issued a year ago.

Officials project that the updated order will benefit over 400,000 residential buildings in Bengaluru, many of which have struggled to secure electricity connections due to the lack of OCs.
