Ahmedabad Civic Body’s Property Tax SOP for Businesses with Free Parking

AHMEDABAD: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has launched a new initiative aimed at improving traffic flow and decreasing the pressure from unauthorized roadside parking. This is part of the ‘Comprehensive Policy 2026 to Transform Traffic, Parking, Encroachment, Road Safety, and Cattle Management Across the City’.

Understanding the importance of collaboration with commercial establishments in addressing the city’s traffic challenges, the AMC has introduced special measures to encourage these businesses.

Under this scheme, commercial establishments that open their parking facilities to the public at no cost will be eligible for property tax exemptions corresponding to the designated parking area.

The AMC emphasizes that by providing access to private parking, congestion on the streets will be alleviated. A circular detailing the initiative has been issued by the AMC.

The benefits will extend to shopping malls, theaters, video parlors, multiplexes, hotels, party venues, community centers, gyms, hospitals, social organizations, and educational institutions. Non-residential units located on national and state highways will also qualify.

To qualify for the tax exemption, these commercial units must not charge any parking fees. They are required to complete the ‘Parking Availability and Sharing Consent Form’ available on the AMC’s official website, specifying the total parking area based on Equivalent Car Space (ECS), where 1 ECS = 2.5 × 5.5 = 13.75 sq m.

A designated person must manage the parking system and log parked vehicles in the AMC’s official AmadaPark application to provide real-time parking information to motorists.

Additionally, it is mandatory to install directional signage and designated parking bays.

The AMC has clarified that units charging for parking, not consenting to public access, or failing to use the AmadaPark application will not be eligible for the property tax exemption.

Commercial units opting out of the tax exemption must apply through the Self-Assessment Module on the AMC’s official website within 60 days to ensure proper property tax assessment.
