NEW DELHI: Three new Metro corridors are set to launch in the national capital by the end of this year, according to Delhi Metro Managing Director Vikas Kumar.
The upcoming corridors are the Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg extension of the Magenta Line, the Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridor, and the Majlis Park-Maujpur extension of the Pink Line.
In a PTI interview, Kumar stated that these corridors are part of Phase 4, which is expected to be commissioned by December.
Kumar further noted that three additional corridors under Phase 4 have received recent approval, expanding the project’s scope. These include the Inderlok-Indraprastha corridor, the Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block corridor, and the Rithala-Narela-Nathupur extension, which is anticipated to be completed around 2029, contingent on approvals, land acquisition, and construction progress.
Regarding the proposed Phase 5 expansion, Kumar announced a target completion year of 2028 for corridors connecting RK Ashram Marg to Indraprastha, Aerocity to IGD Airport T-1, and Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj.
The detailed project report (DPR) for seven additional corridors—ranging from Dhansa bus stand to Nangloi, Central Secretariat to Kishangarh, Samaypur Badli to Narela DDA Sports Complex, Kirti Nagar to Palam, Jor Bagh to Mithapur, Mayur Vihar Phase 3 to Shastri Park, and Keshav Puram to Rohini Sector 34—has been submitted to the Centre under Phase 5B.
This proposed Phase 5B network is expected to encompass approximately 97.158 kilometers within Delhi, targeting areas that have been underserved thus far, including alternative routes and multiple interchanges, as explained by Kumar.
He clarified that the proposal remains in the planning phase, with final alignments and corridor approvals pending from the government.
The DMRC’s expansion plans aim to enhance connectivity in neglected regions, improve interchange facilities, and alleviate congestion and travel times across Delhi-NCR. Phase 4, initially approved by the Union Cabinet in 2019, focuses on building critical corridors to enhance access in outer Delhi and densely populated areas lacking Metro services.
Two segments of the Phase 4 project are already operational: the Janakpuri West-Krishna Park Extension segment of the Magenta Line, which launched in January 2025, and the Majlis Park-Maujpur corridor of the Pink Line, inaugurated in March 2026. Additionally, another segment connecting Majlis Park and Deepali Chowk on the Magenta Line is also complete as part of ongoing expansion efforts.
The DMRC aims to finalize the remaining priority corridors of Phase 4 by December this year, which include the Krishna Park Extension-RK Ashram Marg section of the Magenta Line and the Tughlakabad-Delhi Aerocity corridor of the Golden Line. The Krishna Park Extension-RK Ashram Marg route is expected to greatly enhance east-west connectivity, while the Golden Line corridor will strengthen links between south Delhi, the airport region, and essential urban centers.
Work is also progressing on the Inderlok-Indraprastha and Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block extensions, although completion is not anticipated until 2029.
