JAIPUR: A five-storey building in Jagannath Shah Ka Rasta, Ramganj area, poses more than just a safety risk for local residents. What began as a precautionary evacuation due to cracks in the pillars has escalated into a daily challenge for families in the vicinity.
On Monday, frustrations reached a boiling point as residents protested at the Kishanpol Zone office, seeking urgent action.
The building was evacuated after its pillars showed signs of damage, leading the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) to barricade the area and evacuate nearby homes as a precaution. However, after eight days, residents remain in limbo with no decisions made about repairs or demolition.
The barricading has blocked access to around six to seven homes in the area, severely impacting daily life. The elderly, women, and children are particularly affected, often having to take lengthy detours to get home.
Former councillor Mohammad Zakariya highlighted the administrative delays, stating, “Residents have been suffering for the past eight days. The JMC isn’t allowing repairs or deciding on demolition. There’s no reason to keep families confined like this.”
Building owner Rais Khan expressed his willingness to start repairs but has not yet obtained permission from the authorities. Residents also mentioned disruptions near a local temple and mosque due to the barricades.
Seema Jain, a resident, noted that the initial inconvenience has now disrupted daily life. “We expected the issue to be resolved in a few days, but now the entire community is struggling. Getting children to school or taking elderly family members to the hospital has become daunting,” she said.
In response to the protest, Kishanpol Zone DC Bijendra Singh directed officials to assess the building and take action promptly.
