CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: Progress under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) has been slow in the city. Out of 3,638 applicants, only 130 have deposited the required 10% margin money, leading the municipal corporation to enhance efforts to encourage participation.
The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) is working to connect beneficiaries, banks, and developers to expedite the scheme’s implementation. Municipal commissioner Amol Yedage reviewed the situation and announced new outreach initiatives.
“Banks are providing information and assistance to citizens regarding the documentation and loan processes, ensuring easier access to funds for the scheme. We are also conducting outreach camps to promote the program,” Yedage explained.
A dedicated PMAY information desk has been established at Kala Dalan to help applicants with their documentation and loan inquiries.
Currently, the scheme is implemented at five locations, but the response regarding margin money payment remains low. In Harsul, for instance, 350 applications have been submitted, yet only 12 beneficiaries have paid. At Padegaon, 17 out of 404 applicants have deposited the necessary amount. Similarly, in Sundarwadi, 68 out of 1,695 applicants and in Tisgaon 225-1, only 15 out of 605 applicants have made payments. In Tisgaon 227-1, 18 out of 584 applicants have deposited the required sum.
Officials noted that the corporation is intensifying efforts to remove barriers, especially concerning access to finance, to help eligible beneficiaries utilize the housing scheme.
PMAY is a flagship initiative by the Government of India aimed at providing affordable housing for all, both in urban and rural areas.
