LUDHIANA: In a decisive move against illegal constructions, the Municipal Corporation (MC) building branch demolished an unauthorized colony under construction in the Peeru Banda area on Friday. However, sources indicate that officials encountered significant political pressure and public backlash, forcing them to halt operations temporarily. The demolition included roads and other civic amenities related to the illegal site.
In addition, seven unauthorized structures across different locations in Zone C—including Eastman Chowk, Jaspal Bangar, and Daba Road—were also addressed.
The operation was initiated under the guidance of MC Commissioner Neeru Katyal Gupta and Joint Commissioner Deepjot Kaur. Out of the seven illegal buildings targeted in Zone C, four were commercial and three were industrial.
Referring to the recent demolition of the illegal colony, officials from MC Zone A stated that this was not the first time action had been taken against these constructions; however, the owner resumed building activities, prompting the latest enforcement on Friday.
Building branch officials urge residents to ensure their construction projects have received approval from the civic body, warning that strict measures will be enforced against illegal constructions. The MC consistently conducts operations against unlawful building practices following the directives of Commissioner Neeru Katyal Gupta.
