HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) conducted operations throughout the city on Tuesday, removing encroachments from lakes, park land, roads, and stormwater drains.
In Manchirevula, Gandipet, HYDRAA cleared encroachments from the 8.24-acre Nagireddy Kunta lake. Officials noted that parts of the lake were occupied by private entities despite it being designated as a water body in revenue and HMDA records. “A real estate firm had erected a 20-foot-high tin-sheet wall around four acres, while another entity occupied about three acres. Additionally, a former public representative sold over an acre of it. Temporary structures and compound walls were demolished, and the lake area was subsequently fenced,” stated AV Ranganath, HYDRAA commissioner.
In Medchal-Malkajgiri district, the agency addressed encroachments along the 150-foot-wide Gandimaisamma-Miyapur road in Bowrampet, clearing around 10 temporary sheds and scrap shops that were illegally established along the roadside. After issuing prior notices, HYDRAA facilitated the removal of these structures to improve traffic flow.
In Avushapur, Ghatkesar mandal, officials intervened when 1,440 square yards of land designated for a park in a 1987 layout was divided into six plots and offered for sale. Following complaints, the sale was halted, and the area was fenced off as park space.
In a separate case in Jubilee Hills, encroachments on a stormwater drain had transformed it into residential plots. “Two plots measuring 120 and 180 square yards were created and registered, despite the presence of box drains linked to the Madhapur metro station and the Peddamma temple,” explained Commissioner Ranganath.
Following a complaint, HYDRAA, in conjunction with GHMC and other departments, inspected the area and cleared temporary structures, including tin-sheet enclosures and watchman rooms. Approximately 300 square yards were restored, and the drain was returned to its original state. Officials emphasized that actions were taken based on complaints and field verification.
