Gurugram Residents Face 18% Interest on Unpaid Taxes Starting April 1

GURUGRAM: Residents are reminded to settle their outstanding property tax and water bills by Tuesday. Beginning April 1, any unpaid property tax will incur an annual interest rate of 18%, and overdue water bills will face an added surcharge.

To accommodate last-minute payments, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) will keep all related offices open on Tuesday, despite it being a holiday, allowing residents to clear their outstanding dues. Officials noted that those who miss the deadline will be subjected to additional penalties.

MCG Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya urged residents to pay on time to avoid additional financial burdens from interest and surcharges. He emphasized that prompt tax collection aids in expediting development projects within the city.

Payments can be made both online and offline; residents have the option to visit nearby corporation offices or utilize the MCG’s online portal. The civic body appeals to citizens for timely compliance, which contributes to the city’s development and maintenance.

For the fiscal year 2026-27, MCG aims for a property tax revenue target of Rs 325 crore, representing an 18% increase over the previous year’s projections. This year, MCG and MCM have also harnessed artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance property tax collection efforts.

Using AI, the civic body is actively identifying residents with unpaid dues, addressing their inquiries, and providing assistance for settling outstanding taxes. Additionally, MCG has intensified actions against defaulters by sealing properties and disconnecting water and sewer connections.
