NEW DELHI: The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has announced the re-acquisition of 123 land parcels in various south Delhi villages, responding to recent Supreme Court directives regarding land acquisition disputes. This action aims to protect potential buyers from purchasing sites currently under litigation.

The notice from DDA’s land management department indicates that this re-acquisition aligns with Section 24(2) of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013.

“The Supreme Court has rendered several judgments concerning land acquisition, particularly focusing on the applicability of Section 24(2) in matters involving DDA and other cases adjudicated after May 17, 2024,” the notice states. “Following these decisions, the competent authority assessed the cases and decided to re-acquire 123 parcels while opting not to proceed in 25 instances,” it elaborated.

DDA has made case details available on its official website for public review. The impacted villages include Palam, Lado Sarai, Jasola, Neb Sarai, Maidan Garhi, Chattarpur, Satbari, Mehrauli, Tughlakabad, Kilokri, Najafgarh, Tikri Kalan, Prahladpur Bangar, Samaypur, Mahipalpur, Pitampura, Naraina, Karala, and Begumpur, among others.

Officials revealed that these parcels were initially acquired by the DDA in 1980 to support planned development across 13 villages. Although compensation was granted at the time, many landowners contested the acquisitions, leading to extended legal battles. Ultimately, the Supreme Court determined that the DDA has the right to re-acquire the land for public purposes.

Following the court’s mandate, the DDA will proceed with the re-acquisition of the specified 123 parcels, which are essential for ongoing and future development projects. “For public transparency, we have provided village-wise information, including khasra numbers and case disposal dates,” remarked a DDA representative.

The authority has urged citizens to avoid any land transactions involving these parcels. “These lands are owned by the DDA and are currently under re-acquisition. Residents are strongly advised against entering any sale or purchase agreements,” the official warned.
