Delhi Villages Demand Relief from House Tax, Urban Rules

NEW DELHI: A combined delegation from the Delhi Panchayat Sangh and Palam 360 Village Khap met with MCD Standing Committee Chairperson Satya Sharma on Tuesday, requesting the repeal of house tax and other urban regulations affecting villages in the national capital, as stated in their announcement.

The delegation submitted a memorandum advocating for the exemption of all Delhi villages from house tax, conversion charges, parking fees, and other municipal taxes. They argued that these fees impose an unfair financial burden on rural residents whose livelihoods and living conditions significantly differ from those in urban settings.

The group emphasized that villagers are being unfairly subjected to urban regulations, despite the unique social structures, income sources, and lifestyles found in rural areas.

They noted that the introduction of house tax and associated charges has complicated daily living for villagers.

Delhi Panchayat Sangh leader Than Singh Yadav expressed optimism that with the BJP in power in both the municipal corporation and the Delhi Assembly, there is renewed hope that longstanding issues will be addressed equitably and permanently.

Yadav stated, “Villages should be exempt from MCD building regulations to avoid unwarranted notices and actions related to construction and repairs. Additionally, all villages should be designated under the commercial category to foster permanent employment opportunities.”

Another crucial demand was the immediate unsealing and rebooking of properties in villages that have remained sealed for years, as outlined in the statement.

Delegation members asserted that meeting these demands would foster an environment of trust and development in Delhi’s rural regions, contributing to the overall advancement of villages.
