DEHRADUN: The Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) has reported that it removed encroachments from over 10,000 bighas in Dehradun and sealed more than 1,000 illegal constructions in the last three years. Officials characterized this initiative as the most comprehensive and decisive campaign against unauthorized construction and plotting within its jurisdiction.

“This action is not only historic in scale but has also instilled fear among those participating in illegal activities and rule violations,” stated MDDA vice-chairperson Bansidhar Tiwari.

Officials noted that illegal constructions are regularly identified, leading to strict legal enforcement through sealing and demolitions. Tiwari emphasized that the MDDA will maintain a firm stance against those developing plots without approval or in breach of regulations. “Illegal plotting undermines urban planning, environmental protection, and public safety,” he added.

The authority highlighted that unauthorized colonies often result in issues like waterlogging, traffic congestion, and water scarcity, which could escalate into disaster scenarios in the future. They reiterated that the long-term repercussions of unauthorized developments ultimately affect ordinary citizens, leading to the MDDA’s tough stance against illegal developers who mislead buyers.

Major anti-encroachment efforts have focused on areas such as Vikasnagar, Sahaspur, Selakui, Herbertpur, and many others throughout Dehradun.

Tiwari warned residents against circumventing legal procedures and urged them to secure necessary approvals from the MDDA before purchasing land or beginning construction, highlighting that non-compliance would result in personal accountability for any losses incurred.

MDDA secretary Mohan Singh Barnia mentioned that enforcement teams are actively monitoring illegal activities on the ground. “Our goal is to promote planned development,” he stated, confirming that strict actions will continue against those who defy the law.
