PUNE: The Pimpri Chinchwad police have filed cases against 38 property owners for not providing necessary tenant information.
The cases, registered under Section 223 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), were reported across various police stations in Pimpri-Chinchwad.
The anti-terrorism division of the Pimpri Chinchwad police has initiated a special operation to locate illegal tenants, particularly those of Bangladeshi nationality.
“Last month, we discovered 38 landlords who failed to disclose their tenants’ details. Legal actions have been taken against them,” stated an officer from the special branch.
The police urge property owners to visit their nearest station with tenant details to prevent legal action. “We also encourage residents to report any illegal Bangladeshi nationals in their area to the anti-terrorism branch,” the officer added.
According to a report from The Times of India on May 1, Pune city police have deported 130 Bangladeshi nationals over the past five years—53 within just the last three months, indicating an increased enforcement effort.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Branch) Sandip Bhajibhakare mentioned that police teams are identifying and apprehending illegal immigrants through ongoing verification efforts and intelligence inputs. Many of those who illegally crossed the border were found working in construction sites across Katraj, Ambegaon, and Lonikand, while some women were involved in prostitution in Budhwar Peth and Katraj.
The Faraskhana police apprehended 53 Bangladeshi nationals in the first quarter of 2026, with 14 arrests made in one operation in red-light areas. Officials reported that most suspects possessed fraudulent Aadhaar cards and other fake identification documents, which were later verified as counterfeit. Ongoing inquiries aim to uncover networks facilitating illegal entry, lodging, and employment, along with enhanced coordination with central agencies to prevent future occurrences.
