199 Lucknow Buildings Deemed Unsafe; Owners Must Act

Building Safety Alert

LUCKNOW: In an effort to prevent building collapses during the monsoon season, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has issued notices to the owners and residents of 199 unsafe buildings. They are required to repair the structures or vacate them immediately.

According to officials, these buildings are a hazard to both residents and surrounding properties during heavy downpours. This initiative is part of LMC’s monsoon safety campaign, and ongoing surveys aim to identify additional unsafe structures.

The highest concentration of unsafe buildings is found in Zone 1, which includes Hazratganj, Aminabad, Kaiserbagh, and Latouche Road, accounting for 99 buildings. Zone 2, covering Tilak Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar I & II, Rajendra Nagar, Aishbagh, Yahiyaganj, Raja Bazar, and Kundri Rakabganj, has identified 52 unsafe buildings. Zone 6 includes Chowk, Thakurganj, and Balaganj, totaling 31 buildings, while Zone 3 encompasses Aliganj, Mahanagar, Nirala Nagar, Kapoorthala, Daliganj, Faizullaganj, and IT Chauraha, with 11 buildings. Zone 4, which covers Gomtinagar and its extension, has four unsafe buildings, and one is located in Zone 7 along Kanpur Road.

Many of these buildings are situated in older areas of the city and have deteriorated due to age and lack of maintenance. Officials noted that demolition efforts are frequently stalled due to ongoing ownership or tenancy disputes in the courts.

Chief Engineer Mahesh Chandra Verma has urged owners and occupants to adhere to the notices to safeguard lives and property during the monsoon.
