KOLKATA: The Bengal government plans to establish four new IT parks, with three located in north Bengal and another in Chinsurah, Hooghly. The Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) has commenced work on the IT park in Kurseong, while construction in Kalimpong is expected to begin shortly.
State IT and Electronics Minister Babul Supriyo stated: “We are significantly focusing on developing IT infrastructure in north Bengal. With all three existing IT parks in Siliguri fully operational and at 100% occupancy, we are motivated to create three additional parks in the region. The GTA is responsible for constructing the IT park in Kurseong, and work is in full swing.”
“We have identified a location near Delo for the IT park in Kalimpong, and work will commence soon. We are also planning another IT park in Jalpaiguri,” he added.
Bengal currently has 22 IT parks, with occupancy rates ranging from 80% to 100%, according to the minister. All these parks have been constructed and are managed by WBEIDC (Webel), a state PSU under the IT & Electronics Department.
Anoop Kumar Agrawal, additional chief secretary in the IT and Electronics Department, discussed the forthcoming IT parks during the 16th Business IT Conclave, organized by the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry in partnership with World Trade Center and NDITA, among others, on Friday.
“We have a hardware park in Sonarpur where land is available for allotment at competitive rates,” he mentioned.
