BARDHAMAN: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, reaffirming her dedication to social welfare, announced on Tuesday that since taking office in 2011, her administration has distributed 2.26 lakh pattas (land deeds) to empower individuals with the right to their homes.
Under the Trinamool Congress (TMC) leadership, the state has successfully provided water supply to 76% of rural areas and 78% of urban regions, aiming to cover the remaining areas soon.
While addressing a public function regarding land deed distribution in Purba Bardhaman, the CM remarked, “We believe in fulfilling our promises.”
“Since 2011, we’ve issued 2.26 lakh home pattas, 1.80 lakh agricultural land pattas, and more than 47,000 forest pattas across the state. In Purba Bardhaman alone, we’ve distributed 28,840 pattas, including 832 for refugees and 1,443 for forest land. We plan to distribute an additional 24,000 pattas in the near future,” she stated. “Numerous projects are currently in progress here.”
The CM added that her government is committed to converting all mud houses into permanent structures.
She criticized the central government for halting funds for various programs, including MGNREGA, the Gram Sadak Yojana, and the Banglar Bari housing initiative.
“Despite these challenges, we have constructed 47 lakh houses. We’ve allocated funds for the upgrade of 12 lakh houses to permanent ones. The remaining 16 lakh will receive their first installment in December and the second in June,” she clarified.
Commenting on the damage caused to mud houses during the recent monsoon, Banerjee assured the public, “Don’t worry. I will instruct the district magistrates to compile a list of the affected homes and forward it to the chief secretary. We will initiate a separate program for this, in addition to the 28 lakh houses currently being built.”
On the topic of OBC reservation, she assured that “we have not reduced the general quota. There is a specific fund in place to ensure that students from the general category do not face any difficulties.”
