Union Minister Launches Smart City Housing Project



PUDUCHERRY: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, inaugurated a multi-storied tenement under the Puducherry Smart City Mission on Saturday.

Located in Chinnayapuram hamlet, these tenements provide affordable housing for the economically disadvantaged. The initiative benefited 220 sanitary workers who previously resided in deteriorated buildings, according to an official release.


The event was attended by Lt Governor K Kailashnathan, Chief Minister N Rangasamy, PWD Minister K Lakshminarayanan, Puducherry Assembly Speaker R Selvam, Home Minister A Namassivayam, and BJP local president V P Ramalingam.

The tenements consist of six blocks, equipped with essential infrastructure including internal roads, drinking water supply, drainage, sewage connections, lift facilities, and power supply, the release added.


Furthermore, the Union Minister inaugurated a mini stadium at Anna Thidal, costing Rs 17 crore. This sports facility features a ground, a gallery with 4,500 seating capacity, an additional two-sided gallery for 500 spectators, and space for 1,500 two-wheelers.

This stadium will especially benefit students from Tiruvalluvar Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Thiru Vi Ka Government High School, and Ecole Anglaise, providing a modern sports venue for the public, according to the release.

Additionally, the Union Minister commissioned compact sub-stations worth Rs 28.20 crore prior to visiting Chinnayapuram.
