GURUGRAM: Union minister and Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjit Singh criticized the state government on Thursday for delaying the commencement of the new metro line, insisting on the need for accountability and responsibility in the matter.
Speaking in Gurgaon, Inderjit pointed out that the foundation stone for the project was laid last year, with ‘bhoomi pujan’ taking place this month.
“I hope it doesn’t take another 1.5 years to begin work,” he stated. He mentioned that he has been advocating for the new metro corridor connecting Millennium City Centre to Cyber City since 2018.
“I was told multiple times that the state had approved the project and sent it to the Centre for further approval. However, when I spoke to then Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri, I learned that the Centre had not received it from the state,” he added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated AIIMS Rewari and the Gurgaon metro corridor in February 2024, with the ‘bhoomi pujan’ event for the new line carried out by Union minister and former Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar alongside Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on September 5.
On Thursday, Inderjit emphasized that there must be accountability for the delays. “Someone should be held responsible,” he asserted. Earlier in June, he had warned officials that any “laxity or delay” in the project would be intolerable.
Meanwhile, the Union minister expressed his intention to address the RRTS issue with the Centre after the Delhi–Gurgaon–Shahjahanpur–Neemrana–Behror corridor faced new obstacles, according to a government official. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) mentioned that feasibility studies are currently being considered only up to Dharuhera for the first phase. During a meeting, Union Minister Singh questioned the rationale behind deviating from the original plan, suggesting that extending the corridor to Bawal would be a more prudent choice.
