HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court has instructed the Badangpet Municipal Corporation, situated on the outskirts of Hyderabad, to take decisive and immediate measures against illegal constructions on encroached lands under its jurisdiction.
The order, issued on September 24 by Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy, came in response to a petition from the American Township Plot Owners Welfare Association, a residents’ welfare association from Balapur, Badangpet.
The association alleged that a real estate firm and an individual were encroaching on land designated for a public road and had commenced construction. Despite several complaints, the RWA claimed the municipal corporation had not acted against the offenders.
Taking these allegations seriously, the court ordered the authorities to initiate immediate enforcement actions against the violators, stating that police assistance may be necessary.
The association’s plea requested the corporation to address their representation submitted in June 2025, halt the ongoing illegal constructions, and restore the encroached land for its intended use as a 40-ft public road, as per the approved layout.
B. Keerthi Reddy, the petitioners’ counsel, also urged the court to prevent the violators from undertaking any further encroachments or construction activities on the public road.
In the hearing, the standing counsel for the Badangpet Municipal Corporation informed the court that demolition actions had previously been undertaken based on the petitioners’ complaints, but construction resumed despite these efforts. The counsel assured that new steps would be taken to deter further encroachments.
Recording these submissions, Justice Vijaysen Reddy directed municipal authorities to strictly adhere to the law and ensure compliance with layout provisions. The case was adjourned for consideration alongside other similar petitions pending before the court.
