HYDERABAD: In preparation for the upcoming panchayat elections, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, alongside Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, is set to inaugurate ‘gruhapravesam’ (housewarming) ceremonies for newly built Indiramma houses by the end of this month.
The Chief Minister is expected to participate in a ceremony in the Bhadradri Kothagudem district, though the exact location is yet to be confirmed. Other ministers, MLAs, and prominent leaders will host similar events in their districts prior to the issuance of the panchayat poll notification.
The Congress government has allocated ₹22,500 crore for Indiramma housing across all 119 assembly constituencies. “After a decade of Telangana’s establishment, the ‘people’s government’ is finally making the dreams of the underprivileged come true. In the first phase, 3,500 houses have been approved per constituency,” the CM stated.
For the first time, Indiramma houses are being allocated to Chenchu tribals residing in forest areas. “Previous governments overlooked the housing needs of the tribal community. Understanding their struggles as someone from the Nallamala forests, we have approved 22,016 houses in four ITDA areas,” he added.
Minister Srinivas Reddy indicated that the first phase aims to complete 4.5 lakh houses by 2028, with each beneficiary receiving a ₹5 lakh grant in stages, along with free sand supply. In GHMC limits, houses will be constructed as three-story buildings due to limited land, while independent houses are planned for other areas.
Outside of GHMC, the state has sanctioned 3.68 lakh units, with 1.96 lakh already grounded and many completed. Officials have been directed to aid beneficiaries and expedite construction.
Construction is proceeding rapidly in Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, and Mahbubnagar, but is progressing slowly in Nirmal, Vikarabad, and Narayanpet, according to sources.
