NGT ban on sand mining in Jharkhand may affect availability
Representative Image RANCHI: Sand mining from riverbeds stopped in Jharkhand on Tuesday in accordance with the National Green Tribunal (NGT) order that prohibits sand mining during monsoon to protect aquatic life in the rivers. The move is likely to create a shortage of sand in the coming months. An official in the mining and geology department said a letter related to the ban on sand mining from June 10 to October 15 was sent on Monday to all deputy commissioners, who in return have notified it locally.
