CUTTACK: In a significant ruling, the Orissa high court has held that revenue authorities cannot adjudicate disputes involving ownership or title to land, emphasising that such matters fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of civil courts. The vacation bench of Justice S K Panigrahi issued the order on May 30, setting aside an eviction order passed by the tehsildar of Dhamnagar under the Orissa Prevention of Land Encroachment (OPLE) Act, 1972. CUTTACK: Orissa high court has given a clean chit to Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) for reinitiating, through public auction, the sale of flats which were first allotted to policyholders through a draw of lots, and subsequently cancelled in 2014. BHUBANESWAR: In an attempt to safeguard the interests of homebuyers, Odisha Real Estate Regulatory Authority (ORERA) has sought the intervention of the state govt in instructing planning authorities to abide by its provisions which mandates obtaining the consent of two-third of the allottees if any promoter intends to take up any revision work or alteration in a housing project. BHUBANESWAR: Grievance redressal for homebuyers is likely to be affected with the Odisha Real Estate Regulatory Authority (ORERA), which has three members, becoming completely defunct on Saturday, following the retirement of its third member — who was serving as the acting chairperson — on Friday. ORERA functions primarily with three senior members. Its chairperson, Siddhanta Das, resigned on Feb 28, just before completing his five-year term. BHUBANESWAR: In relief to homebuyers, the state govt on Monday appointed Usha Padhee, who is the principal secretary of housing and urban development department, as the interim chairperson of Odisha Real Estate Regulatory Authority (ORERA). The govt move comes two days after the third and only member of ORERA retired, making the authority virtually defunct.
