CHANDIGARH: After the demolition of Adarsh Colony on Thursday, UT administration is considering declaring the city “slum free.” Another slum cluster, Shahpur Colony, is still standing but UT officials contend that most of it is located on private land and requires proceedings under the Periphery Act. After collector rate, conversion charges set to see steep hike in Chandigarh

CHANDIGARH: A steep hike in conversion charges will soon be made effective, with the UT deputy commissioner office submitting the proposal to the Chandigarh administration for the revision of charges for the conversion of leasehold residential property to freehold, based on the increased collector rates. The charges differ across categories, but officials state that the increase will be at least double the existing rates. The conversion charges were fixed as per the 2017 notification and collector rates. Chandigarh civic body set to proceed after getting estate office’s nod on freehold

CHANDIGARH: The estate office of the Chandigarh administration has informed the municipal corporation that they dispose of their residential properties on a freehold basis, but only after obtaining prior approval from the competent authority of the UT. Meanwhile, the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) informed the MC that they do not engage in activities involving the disposal of chunks of land.
