Residents and Developers Urge JDA Action Post-HC Ruling on Jaipur Colonies

JAIPUR: Following a directive from the Rajasthan High Court for the removal of unauthorized constructions on government land in Jaipur, both residents and developers are calling for stringent action against encroachments in the state capital.

The court, while addressing a PIL regarding 87 illegal colonies in the Sanganer area, instructed the Rajasthan Housing Board and the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) to clear unauthorized constructions and provide a compliance report within four weeks. The next hearing is set for December 9.

Residents and real estate developers have reported that substantial areas in Sanganer tehsil, designated for urban development, have been illegally occupied by showrooms, boutiques, and eateries operating without JDA authorization.

Dhirendra Singh, director of Pinkcity Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, expressed concern: “Encroachments on government land not only hinder planned growth but also pose a threat to public safety. Despite repeated requests, no decisive action has been taken.” His company has contacted the JDA for intervention.

In their communication to authorities, the company indicated that they possess exclusive development rights on Khasra Nos. 140 to 178 of Chimanpura in Sanganer, as per a surrender deed under the Rajasthan Land Revenue Act, and urged immediate action citing Supreme Court rulings.

The letter highlighted the prevalence of unauthorized businesses—including furniture shops, boutiques, eateries, salons, and garment stores—allegedly functioning without the required permits from JDA.

Referencing a recent Supreme Court judgment, the complaint insists that regularization should only be allowed in exceptional cases and demands a robust crackdown on violations, calling for the immediate sealing and demolition of illegal establishments, along with the restoration of public infrastructure.

Resident Dhanna Lal noted that unchecked construction has congested local roads, stating, “Illegal structures have resulted in chaotic development. Authorities must act against these encroachments.”

Local business owner Hanuman Chaudhary added, “Even legitimate property owners are facing issues due to the blatant operations of illegal builders. Authorities need to take a stand before the area becomes unmanageable.”

When reached for comment, JDA Secretary Nishant Jain replied, “I am currently on election duty. I will investigate this matter.”
