RERA to Manage Real Estate Registrations in Meghalaya

SHILLONG: The Real Estate Regulatory Authority (Rera) of Meghalaya will manage the registration of real estate projects, promoters, and agents, according to an official statement released on Friday.

The Government of Meghalaya established Rera on February 18, 2020, under the Real Estate Regulation and Development Act, 2016, with the aim of fostering a transparent, accountable, and efficient real estate sector.

RERA will ensure compliance with the provisions of the Act, implement an internal adjudicating mechanism for prompt resolution of disputes, and protect home buyers’ interests through regulatory oversight, as highlighted in the official statement.

The authority consists of a full-time chairman and two other members, functioning as an independent statutory body, the statement noted.

The RERA office is situated at the Urban Affairs Complex, Kharmalki (behind Shillong Law College), Dhanketi, Shillong.

This crucial development demonstrates the government’s commitment to responsible growth, consumer protection, and transparency in future real estate initiatives in Meghalaya.

RERA Meghalaya strongly urges all promoters, developers, and real estate agents operating in the state to register themselves and their projects as required by the Act. This registration is not simply a legal obligation but also a vital step towards establishing credibility and trust within the real estate sector.

Failure to comply may lead to penalties and regulatory actions under the Act, as warned by the media statement signed by the chairman of Rera, Meghalaya.
