Ranchi collects record ₹39 crore in property tax in Q1 FY26

RANCHI: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) achieved a record property tax collection of Rs 39.33 crore in the first quarter (April to June) of the 2025-26 fiscal year, serving 81,320 taxpayers, according to official data.

The surge in collections is attributed to several factors, including a tiered rebate scheme, increased digital engagement, extended door-to-door collection, and payment facilitation centers. Taxpayers could avail a 10% rebate on lump-sum payments until June 30, with previous slabs in April and May offering rebates of 3%, 5%, and 7%.

Of the total, Rs 20.27 crore was gathered through door-to-door efforts involving over 53,500 taxpayers. Digital transactions contributed Rs 12.52 crore from approximately 23,000 payers, while Rs 1.94 crore came from RMC’s help centers.

Deputy Municipal Commissioner Gautam Prasad noted that these figures reflect greater taxpayer participation, especially from those who previously delayed payments. “We aimed to simplify the process, whether through online platforms, local ward camps, or direct collection. Our targeted outreach in low-compliance wards is also yielding results,” he stated.

The civic body is also focused on clearing outstanding dues. Prasad mentioned that RMC plans to assess large pending debts and consider stricter enforcement if necessary.

In comparison, the first quarter of the previous year (2024-25) recorded Rs 32.93 crore from 76,527 taxpayers, while 2023-24 collected Rs 27.04 crore from 72,435 taxpayers. The figure for 2022-23 was Rs 21.90 crore.
