RANCHI: Over 70,000 property owners falling under the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) limits did not pay holding taxes for the 2024-25 financial year (FY), the civic body officials said.
Out of the Rs 83 crore holding tax that was to be received by the RMC, Rs 80.64 crore holding tax was paid by the 1.67 crore domestic and business property holders till March 31 this year, the civic body added.
Deputy municipal commissioner of the RMC, Gautam Prasad Sahu, said, “Revenue shortfall due to non-payment of holding taxes stands at Rs 20 crore, including the outstanding payments dating back to the 2019-20 FY.”
Officials said the revenue gap has affected the RMC’s 2025-26 FY budget. “We issue notices to defaulters at regular intervals, yet payment is unsatisfactory. We will now take necessary enforcement actions. Utility services like water supply and garbage collection may be discontinued for long-time defaulters,” he added.
The RMC is also offering up to a 10% rebate for early payments in the first quarter, issued through digital and doorstep collection channels.
Taxes are collected door-to-door, through digital channels and Jan Suvidha Kendras. Now, the civic body said it would launch ward-wise enforcement campaigns to assess vacant plots and penalise the owners of residential units that are being used for commercial purposes without declarations.
