JAIPUR: Residents of Indira Gandhi Nagar have been waiting for a year for the completion of a 100-meter road stretch near Kundanpura on Ganga Marg. The unfinished road, filled with potholes, poses daily hazards, with frequent two-wheeler accidents during the monsoon.
The Rajasthan Housing Board (RHB) constructed almost 5 km of road in the area, but the last 100 meters remain incomplete due to encroachments. The encroachers moved to the high court for compensation, which put a halt to the project. However, six months ago, the court dismissed their claims and instructed the housing board to finish the road. Despite this, construction has yet to resume.
Ward 120 councillor Chotu Ram Meena expressed frustration, stating, “We’ve met with the RHB Commissioner multiple times but received no satisfactory answers. The court’s clear mandate from six months ago remains unacted upon, and accidents persist.”
Meena further alleged that delays are due to a collusion between officials and contractors, claiming, “When I met Commissioner Rashmi Sharma on Thursday, she indicated work would only begin after the Assembly session, to avoid raising this issue during proceedings.”
Residents argue negligence extends beyond this specific road. Last year, a sewer line was installed near Sector 14, but the contractor did not remove debris, leaving the road blocked for a year. Additionally, a road behind shops in Sector 1 was excavated for sewerage but has not been restored since.
RHB Commissioner Rashmi Sharma was unavailable for comment.
